NUFC – Rugby World Cup 2015 – May 2014
Client: Newcastle United Football Club
Location: St James Park, Newcastle
RHD were asked to carry out these works within a fixed 3 day window due to the club’s commitments to the Premier League, corporate bookings and booked music concerts. We were required to install four foundations, each measuring approx. 1.7m x 1.7m x 1.7m deep, which were required to support the goal posts for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Whilst the scheme wasn’t of any significant value or duration, it was of an intricate nature which required the careful excavation and segregation of the rootzone, sand and gravel bed as well as the removal of the undersoil heating pipes that ran through each base (250mm c/c’s) and lateral drainage pipe all of which had to be worked around in-situ or reinstated on completion of the foundations.
The foundations and pitch build up were reinstated successfully along with the undersoil heating pipes which were successfully re-commissioned.
