Client: Newcastle International Airport
Location: Newcastle Airport
The scheme relates to 2 number connecting areas, each landside and containing the remain office buildings and heavily reinforced concrete foundations previously being the BP and Connoco fuel farms. Due to the increase in demand for airport parking it was decided to remove the 2 fuel farms and turn the areas into a new meet and greet car parks. The value of the scheme was £123K with a large emphasis on recycling as much material as possible on site.
The existing office blocks were demolished, all timber and internal materials were disposed off site, all brickwork was crushed and used as type 1 sub base beneath the new car parking areas. The extensive heavily reinforced concrete tank bases and bund walls were broken out and crushed to be used as type 1 sub base. A new and improved external lighting system was installed with associated ductwork and cabling to the new parking areas and the re connecting of the existing car rental area car parks, which were previously powered through the old BP offices. The footprint of the removed offices and concrete foundations were in filled with new concrete slabs, providing the additional parking spaces. New timber and paladin fencing was installed to the perimeter of these new car parking spaces.
The scheme was carried out within a 6 week contract programme ensuring additional parking capacity prior to the Christmas break. The works were carried out on time and to budget.
